In Grozny, women shot and killed "for honour motives", investigators believe

The women killed in a Grozny café were cousins, and one of them owned the very café. Investigators consider the basic version of the crime as an "honour killing".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 20, in the "Lolita" café, three men opened fire from pistols. As a result, two female staff members were killed.

The killed women are identified as Matsagova, a 55-year-old owner of the "Lolita" café, and Edilsultanova, her 45-year-old cousin. This was reported by an official of the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee for the Russian Federation (ICRF). According to him, beside the motive of "honour killing", the investigators also consider other versions of the crime.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Northern Caucasus, and particularly Chechnya, faces the acute problem of "honour killings". The victims of extrajudicial killings are women who, according to their relatives, behave immorally and bring on shame on the whole family. Only some cases of "honour killings" in the region go public, and local residents do not question the right of relatives to commit such murders. This opinion was expressed by experts in April, when they commented on the case against Sultan Daurbekov, a resident of Chechnya, who was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for the murder of his daughter.
