Dagestani SC dismisses police's complaint in Magomedova's case

The verdict of the first-instance court, which had cancelled the decision to stop the investigation into the beating of the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova at the police, was legitimate, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has ruled.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported, referring to Magomedova, that on June 17, 2010, she was beaten by Khasavyurt policemen. However, the latter claimed that the woman herself attacked them. Cases were initiated against both parties, but then consolidated and closed. In December 2014, at the demand of the SC, the investigation was reopened, but then closed again. On June 30, 2015, the Sovietskiy District Court of Makhachkala invalidated the new decision to stop the case.

On August 20, the Dagestani SC considered the complaint against the decision of the Sovietskiy Court lodged by the party representing the interests of Khasavyurt police, said Magomedova, adding that following the consideration, the SC decided to uphold the decision of the lower court.

An appeal against this decision may be lodged to the SC of Russia.
