Nalchik: 5000 went out to the action "Immortal Regiment"

At least five thousand residents of Nalchik came to the Victory Parade with portraits of participants of the Great Patriotic War, thus, taking part in the march "Immortal Regiment".

The Victory Day Parade, a concert and other celebrations took in Accord Place. In central Nalchik, the traffic was restricted, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The celebrations began with laying of flowers at the Eternal Flame in the Nalchik Park. The event was attended by veterans, military servicemen, students, staff of various law enforcement bodies and government officials. They honoured the memory of victims of the Great Patriotic War and laid flowers and wreaths to the monument.

The military parade was composed of the military units, deployed in the territory of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), as well as warriors in Afghanistan and local military conflicts.

Six years ago, the organization of veterans of special risk units had 28 persons; now, only 13 of them left, said Lieutenant Colonel Georgy Bryzhko, a veteran of special risk units.

All the veterans, except one person, are provided with flats, said Bryzhko. He added that every year by the Victory Day veterans receive lump sum cash assistance. This year, its amount was 20,000 roubles.

Nikolai Lekarev, a veteran of the armed forces and a labour veteran, said that he was "happy with everything" – his pension, health care and housing conditions.
