Armenia's resolution against acquittal of genocides adopted by UN Council

At its session, the United Nation's Council on Human Rights has adopted a resolution, initiated by Armenia and condemning attempts to justify or deny the cases of genocide.

The 28th session of the UN Council on Human Rights was held in Geneva on March 27; in particular, it considered the resolution initiated by Armenia "On Prevention of Genocide".

The resolution emphasizes that the impunity of genocide and other crimes against humanity encourages the recurrence of such events. According to the authors of the resolution, the combat against this impunity endangers any attempt to deny or justify genocide.

The document also declares the importance of mechanisms for universal monitoring and contains a call upon states to provide in their national reports the information on the steps taken towards the prevention of mass crimes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 25, in the first reading, the Armenian Parliament unanimously adopted a bill, according to which December 9 would be announced in Armenia as the Genocide Commemoration Day.
