Chechen natives blame migration services for death of man deported from Sweden

In Stockholm, a member of the Chechen Human Rights Centre (ChHRC) has appealed to the Swedish authorities for explanations concerning the circumstances of deportation of Kana Afanasev, a native of Chechnya, who died after his detention in Elin-Yurt. According to the ChHRC, Kana Afanasev has applied for political asylum to the Swedish authorities; however, the Swedish Migration Board considered that there was no threat to Afanasev's life in Russia. Before his death, Kana Afanasev was tortured with electric current, local residents report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on February 24, an explosion occurred at the dam in the Grozny village of Chernorechye. As a result, three persons were killed. None of the victims was listed as a militant. After the incident, the detention of two residents of the village of Gvardeiskoe (Elin-Yurt) was reported.

Vissadi Nagaev, a member of the Chechen Human Rights Centre (ChHRC) in Stockholm, has disseminated an appeal to the Swedish media and the Migration Board, in which he mentions a "mistake of the migration service" as the cause of Afanasev's death.

Mairbek Taramov, a native of Chechnya residing in Stockholm, the leader of the local Chechen Human Rights Centre, has noted that the Swedish Migration Board refuses to cooperate with the Chechen human rights defenders.

According to Mairbek Taramov, in recent years, the Swedish Migration Board refuses asylum to refugees from Chechnya and even deport them to Russia, thus putting their lives in danger.
