MIA officer, wounded by explosion, dies in Chechnya

In Chechnya, Nikolai Mordvin, an officer of the Interior Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), died from injuries he got in an explosion that occurred on February 28.

The incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. Moscow time in a mountainous and wooden area in the Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, a source in the law enforcement agencies reports. "When carrying out the search operations, five soldiers were blown up by an unidentified explosive device. They got mine blast injuries," the source has said.

According to the Chechen law enforcer, Nikolai Mordvin, the deputy commander of one of the units for special training, died from his injuries after he had been brought to a military hospital.

The state of the other victims is characterized as satisfactory, the "Interfax" reports with reference to the Chechen law enforcer.
