Baku resident commits self-immolation act
Today, a resident of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, in front of eyewitnesses, for unknown reasons, has committed suicide by self-immolation.
The incident occurred in Mirza Aga Aliev Street, near No. 108.
According to local residents, city authorities are demolishing several houses in the area. According to their version, the man could take this desperate step in protest in connection with the compensation to be paid for the demolished house, the "Interfax-Azerbaijan" reports.
The true causes of the suicide are still unknown.
The scene of the incident is cordoned off by law enforcers.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2014 Azerbaijan fixed 21 cases of suicide and several more suicide attempts, including in the form of self-immolation, which was reported by an activist of the youth movement "Dalga" (Wave). The movement announced its intention to demand from the authorities to toughen penalties for driving people to suicide.
