Relatives of murdered rights defender Maksharip Aushev ask to transfer investigation to Ingushetia
Relatives of Ingush rights defender Maksharip Aushev have appealed to the Russian President, the head of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), and the leader of Ingushetia with a request to resume the investigation and send the criminal case to Ingushetia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Maksharip Aushev perished on October 25, 2009, when several kilometres away from Nalchik, his car was shelled by unidentified attackers from a car passing-by along the federal highway "Kavkaz". The oppositionist died on the spot.
On October 26, on the anniversary of the murder of the rights defender, his relatives sent an appeal to the leaders of the country, the republic and the ICRF with the request to resume the investigation and send the criminal case to Ingushetia.
It should be noted that in March 2010, relatives and friends of Maksharip Aushev started an independent investigation into the crime and announced a reward for the information about his rights defender's murderers.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Magomed-khadji Aushev, the father of the murdered rights defender, that the results of the independent investigation "conclusively prove that the crime was associated with Maksharip's political activities and that it involved law enforcers."
"In case if the criminal case is sent for investigation to Ingushetia or Kabardino-Balkaria, we are willing to share information that sheds light on the murder," Magomed-khadji Aushev has said.
