In Tbilisi, policemen beat up activist of NGO "Free Zone"

In Tbilisi, David Gogokhiya, an activist of NGO "Free Zone", was detained at the place where journalist Zaza Davitaya was beating. He was brought to the police station and beaten by law enforcers. This was reported by Georgy Oniani, an advocate of the activist.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 30, Zaza Davitaya, a journalist of the Georgian newspaper "Asaval-Dasavali", was beaten in the capital of Georgia. The journalist was taken to hospital with serious injuries. According to colleagues of the victim, Zaza Davitaya was attacked by a group of about 10 young men.

David Gogokhiya arrived in the place where the journalist was beaten to clarify the situation. However, the policemen detained David Gogokhiya instead of the offenders of Zaza Davitaya. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by one of the activists of the NGO "Free Zone", who visited the place of the incident.

David Gogokhiya was detained not on suspicion of beating Zaza Davitaya, but on suspicion of rendering resistance to the police, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Georgy Oniani, the advocate of the activist.

According to the advocate, his client was beaten by the policemen of Vake-Saburtalo District of Tbilisi. "My client was severely beaten at the police station. The relevant expertise has already been done. Moreover, the policemen threatened to rape David," Georgy Oniani has stated.
