In Shakhty, wife of tried policeman complains about falsification of his case

In the Rostov Region, the Shakhty City Court considers the case against policemen accused of attempted illegal sale of narcotic substances. The wife of one of the defendants believes that her husband fell victim to his unscrupulous colleague.

On January 28, 2013, Police Captain Alexei Katkalov was detained on suspicion of illegal sale of drugs. According to investigators, on December 11, 2012, in conspiracy with other policemen, Alexei Katkalov gave a citizen hashish marijuana "in order to transfer it to third parties and then to bring them to justice for illegal possession of drugs."

The policemen decided to commit a crime in order to "improve figures of their activities in solving crimes and thus get praised by their bosses."

The criminal case against Alexei Katkalov was fabricated, and the investigation was conducted with gross violations, stated his wife Liliya Kurosh. According to the woman, defendants Katkalov and Petrov "were framed."

The woman sent letters to the Shakhty City, Rostov Regional and General Prosecutor's Offices and asked to take the control over the criminal case. However, "all the Prosecutor's Offices responded that no unlawful actions had been detected in the activities of the staff member of the Internal Affairs Division."

Fears voiced by Liliya Kurosh may be justified. This opinion was expressed by Alexander Gurov, Honoured Lawyer of Russia, and the former head of the Chief Department to Combat Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the USSR. Alexander Gurov calls the situation "wide-spread."
