Journalists condemn beating of Armenian rights activist
Armenian media organizations have condemned the beating of Mikael Danielian, president of the Helsinki Association. "We consider the happening a sequel to the atmosphere of political intolerance that has been seen in the country recently," reads a statement by the Yerevan Press Club, the Union of Armenian Journalists, Internews Armenia, and the Glasnost Defense Foundation.
Mikael Danielian was beaten by four strangers on March 30. It is worth noting that earlier he had given an interview to the Azerbaijan newspaper Echo, which quoted him as saying "war is the only chance for Kocharian today to make the opposition be silent."
