Georgia protests against "KaZantip" Festival

In Tbilisi, about 200 people participated today in a protest action held in front of government office, demanding from the authorities to prohibit the "KaZantip" Festival in Georgia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 5 Giorgi Sigua, the head of the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, announced the idea to move the annual electronic music "KaZantip" Festival from the Crimea to Georgia. The organizers of the "KaZantip Republic" Festival agreed to move their event from the Crimea to the Georgian resort settlement of Anaklia on the Black Sea shore. It was planned that the festival would be held from August 20 to August 30, 2014.

"We've held an action asking the government to cancel the 'KaZantip'. We've drafted a petition, which can be signed by anyone. In our opinion, this festival is an insult to the Georgian society and its traditions. There will be an orgy with drugs; and they'll create such an atmosphere that does not meet the interests of Georgia and won't contribute to the progress of the Georgian society," said Zviad Tomaradze, one of the organizers of the protest.

The protesters gathered signatures to the petition and plan to hand it over on July 28 to the government office.
