Andronnikov (Andronikashvili), Ivan Malkhazovich

Russian military man, cavalry general, prince.

Born in 1798. Great-grandson of the Georgian czar Irakly the Second and maternal grandson of the Imeretin czar Solomon the Second. Was distinguished during the Russo-Persian (1826-1828) and Russo-Turkish (1828-1829) Wars. Was distinguished as a military leader during the lengthy Caucasian War in which he was taking part voluntarily, due to his conflict with Paskevich; he commanded several detachments in an operation against the highlanders in Lezgin Line, headed the counterinsurgency expedition in Ossetia and a campaign in Dagestan. In 1849-1856, was Tiflis military governor. During the Crimean War 1853-1856, the army under Andronnikov's command defeated the Turks at Akhaltsikh (1853) and at the Chorokh River (1854). After the war, general Andronnikov served with the head commander of the Caucasus.

I.M. Andronnikov died in January 1869.
