AEM leader calls on Azerbaijani citizens to protest against rise in fuel prices

Ramin Khadjily, a leader of the Azerbaijani European Movement (AEM), has disseminated a video message calling on the citizens of the country to attend a protest action against rise in fuel prices to be held on December 8.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 3, Azerbaijan increased retail prices for gasoline and diesel fuel. In average, the price of a litre of fuel rose by 0.2 manats (0.25 US cents).

In the video message to the citizens of Azerbaijan, posted on the "Youtube", Ramin Khadjily has stated that the protest action will be "peaceful, nonviolent and silent."

Meanwhile, on December 6, Sakhlab Bagirov, Deputy Chief of the Chief Police Department of the Baku city, warned the citizens through the media that all actions unsanctioned by the city authorities would be stopped by law enforcement bodies.

It should be noted that after the announcement of the rise in price of fuel, Djamil Gasanli, the leader of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), has stated that the opposition will hold a series of protest actions against the rise in price of fuel. The NCDF plans to hold a protest action on December 15.

According to the information as of December 5, more than 20,000 persons signed an online petition to President Ilham Aliev to halt the rise in fuel prices.
