Armed Zviadists leave forests in Western Georgia

Over 50 followers of the first Georgian president Zviad Gamsakhurdia, who have been opposing to the power of ex-president Eduard Shevardnadze and hiding in forests in the Samgrelo region (Western Georgia) for the last 12 years, laid down arms and returned to peaceful life in Tsalendjikha on April 4. The authoritative Zviadist nicknamed King-Kong, members of Badri Zarandia's group and other people were among them. Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Baramidze and State Minister for National Affairs Guram Absandze took part in the action.

They stressed the division of Georgian society into followers and adversaries of Zviad Gamsakhurdia was over from that point on and henceforth no one would be able to justify the confrontation with the Georgian government by political reasons.
