NGOs demand dismissal of Kutaisi mayor
Representatives of some Georgian non-government organizations (NGOs) demanded on April 5 that the mayor of Kutaisi (Western Georgia) be dismissed. At a press conference, they accused city mayor Nugzar Paliani and local officials of financial machinations.
The NGO activists assert the 2002-2003 Kutaisi city budget was worked out incorrectly and budget funds were not spent for the purpose. Participants in the press conference promised to deliver all the materials they had collected to the Georgian Prosecutor General's Office.
