Searches in northern Chechnya to be resumed in 2014

Next summer, the search for remains of Soviet soldiers killed during the World War II in the plain Naur District of Chechnya will be resumed. This was reported by the Ministry for Youth Affairs of Chechnya. In September, according to the Ministry's information, search teams from Chechnya, Ukraine, and Moldova managed to find 82 grave sites of the Red Army soldiers who died in 1942 during the attack of Nazi troops on Grozny.

A source from Ministry for Youth Affairs of Chechnya has stated that, according to the archives, in 1942, during the combat actions in that front sector, about 12,000 the Red Army soldiers were killed or went missing in action.

Till present, the Soviet soldiers buried in the Naur District in 1942 have not been identified yet. Upon examination, they will be reburied in accordance with military traditions.

It should be also noted that the search operation in the Naur District of Chechnya was conducted with the assistance of the Military Historical Society of Russia.

Two years ago, in the neighbourhood of the village of Alpatovo of the Naur District of Chechnya, search teams found remains of more than 100 Red Army soldiers. In May 2013, on the eve of the anniversary of the Victory Day, the monument to pay tribute to the fallen Soviet soldiers was opened at the place.
