ECtHR accepts 11 complaints on violations at parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan
As reported by Intigam Aliev, the head of the Legal Enlightenment Society of Azerbaijani, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has accepted complaints of 11 citizens on violations of the law during the 2010 parliamentary elections.
The applicants complained to the ECtHR about falsifications at the elections, including unlawful interference of the authorities, the use of administrative resources in favour of the ruling party, discrimination on the basis of political affiliation, and biased consideration of complaints by election commissions and courts.
After accepting the complaints in mid-October, the ECtHR began communicating with the government of Azerbaijan, Intigam Aliev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today. The court has provided time until February 7 next year for the Azeri Govt to answer the questions.
According to Mr Aliev, in total, about 120 complaints about human rights violations in Azerbaijan during the 2010 parliamentary elections had been sent to the ECtHR.
