Witness in ANC activists' case states unlawful police actions
At detention of activists of the "Armenian National Congress" (ANC), now convicted for hooliganism and disobeying the police, law enforcers themselves committed illegal actions, including beating of detainees. This was stated by Sahak Muradyan, an ex-figurant in the case and now a witness, at the session of the Court of Appeal (CoA) of Armenia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the motion to summon Sahak Muradyan, Areg Gevorgyan and Vahagn Gevorgyan, the former figurants in the case of the conflict on August 9, 2011, between ANC activists and the police in Yerevan, as witnesses was granted by the CoA on August 9.
According to Muradyan, on August 9, 2011, he was just walking in the vicinity of the Swan Lake together with his friends, but policemen took them for oppositionists, and they had to get involved into the brawl.
On the way to the police station, policemen kept abusing and beating the detainees, Mr Muradyan has stated.
The trial will continue on September 10.
