In Rostov-on-Don, Court pronounces verdict in case of espionage committed by military man in favour of Georgia

The North-Caucasian District Court has sentenced ex-Ensign Denis Kaimakov to eight years of imprisonment for treason espionage. This was reported by the press service of the Court. The verdict was pronounced on July 25.

In accordance with Article 48 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Denis Kaimakov was deprived of his military rank of "Ensign".

The verdict has not entered into force and it may be challenged at the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

Espionage was committed in favour of Georgia. Denis Kaimakov was found guilty of the fact that during his service in Abkhazia, he passed to the Georgian side for remuneration the information constituting a state secret of Russia, the "RBC" reports with reference to the press service of the Court.

Till present, no comments have been received from Denis Kaimakov and his representatives on the pronouncement of the verdict, and it is not reported whether he admitted his guilt and whether he concluded an agreement with the investigators.
