CEC officially announced Serzh Sargsyan winner at the presidential election of Armenia

The incumbent President, Leader of the ruling Republican party of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan won the first round of the presidential election, CEC of Armenia announced today during its session on summing-up the totals of the election of February, 18. According to the final calculation, 861 373 voters, i.e. 58,64% of the electorate, voted for Sargsyan.

According to official data, Leader of “Nasledie” party, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs Raffi Ovannisayn took the second place. 539 693 electors, i.e. 36,75% of the electorate, voted for him. Ex-Prime Minister of the country, Chairman of “Svoboda” party Grant Bagaratyan with 36,75% votes (2,15%) remained in the third position.

The rest candidates for presidency polled votes as follows: Paruir Airikyan - 18 096 (1,23%), Andreas Gukasyan - 8 329 (0,57%), Vardan Serdakyan - 6 210 (0,42%) and Arman Melikyan - 3520 (0,24%).
Besides, over 50 thousand ballot papers were acknowledged invalid by CEC of Armenia.

Ovannisyan and his supporters do not recognize the totals of the election stating that they were forged. Today Ovannisyan submitted a statement to Central Election Committee of Armenia demanding to acknowledge Sargsyan’s candidacy at the presidential election invalid. The request was dismissed, Panorama.am referring to Chairman of Central Election Committee of Armenia Tigran Mukuchyan reports.
