Georgian opposition prepares rally against changing foreign policy vector

The Georgian opposition party "United National Movement" (UNM) has announced its intention to hold a large-scale rally on April 19 in central Tbilisi with a demand "not to change the pro-Western policy of the state."

The planned rally is an action not of the party but of the people who support the country's pro-Western policy, the UNM Secretary General Ivan Merabishvili said at a press briefing on February 21.

"Unfortunately, Georgia is now facing a choice due to the vague and unclear position of the current government of Georgia as to the country's future and its orientation," said Merabishvili.

Maya Pandjikidze, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, told reporters that the foreign policy of Georgia remains unchanged; and it is oriented to the West.

"Georgia is on the right foreign policy track. For us, the European way is the only one. I, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirm it almost every day," said Maya Pandjikidze.
