Dagestan announces contest on design of monument to perished journalists

The Union of Journalists of Dagestan has announced an international contest on the design of a monument to fallen journalists.

"One of these days, the website of the Union of Journalists will post an official announcement. Already, we have three projects received after laying the foundation stone of the monument. These projects will be made public for the discussion," Ali Kamalov, the Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Dagestan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Ali Kamalov, an authoritative commission will define the best project.

The laying of the foundation stone of the future monument took place in July 2012.

The monument will be erected in honour of all those who had left a bright trace in the development of Dagestani journalism and the republic in general, Umarosman Gadjiev, the head of the Republic's Ministry of Printing, said during the laying ceremony.

Let us remind you that according to the Union of Journalists of Russia out of the 341 journalists killed in Russia in 1993-2012, quite a lot – 16 media professionals – were lost in Dagestan.
