Korenovsk
Rayon (sector) centre in Krasnodar kray (region), 64 km north-east of Krasnodar. Located in the Kuban-Priazov Lowland, on the Beysuzhek-Levy River (tributary of the Beysug River). Railway station in the Tikhoretsk - Krasnodar line. Highway (Rostov-on-Don - Novorossiysk). Population (1992 est.) 36.8 thousand, (1979 est.) 34.6 thousand.
Arose in 1794. The stanitsa (Cossack village) of Korenovskaya, Caucasian otdel (section), Kuban oblast (province) had more than 7 thousand inhabitants, as well as 2 churches, a school, 11 mills and other establishments in the end of the 19th century. Town since 1961.
Present Korenovsk is an agricultural centre with industry processing agricultural raw materials: a milk cannery; a sugar-refinery, a brewery, a dry lactoserum factory; the Rossiya poultry plant; an elevator.
