Action against abuse of animals in Krasnodar was attended by 30 people

On June 15, the Chistyakov Grove of Krasnodar hosted a picket, sanctioned by the Mayoralty "We demand a law that protects not kills!" The picketers protested against cruel treatment of animals as well as against cruelty and inhumane methods of catching stray animals. The action brought together about 30 civilian activists, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The picketers collected signatures to the petition to the Russian State Duma "with a demand to prevent legitimization of destruction of stray animals and dogs and cats that stay without human care as a method of regulating their population."

Albina Kornienko, the founder of the public fund for pet care "Kindness will save the world", has explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that defenders of animals' rights "had repeatedly submitted to the city council and administration a law draft and our calculations of humane regulation of the population of stray animals," but they found no support of the authorities.

"The methods of catching and killing animals, practiced for decades in our country, have no effect; they are inhumane and totally inefficient from an economic point of view, because they fight with consequences. Far better is to affect the reason – to develop a programme of sterilization and promote responsible pet care," said Albina Kornienko.
