Sochi residents: fire in Khosta District continues
In the resort city of Sochi, Krasnodar Territory, residents of Djaparidze and Leselidze Streets located in the Khosta District on the left and right banks of the Sochi River, report that as at 11:00 p.m. Moscow time, the fire in the area of Orekhov Waterfalls did not go down and moved towards individual houses.
The fire in the national park of the city of Sochi began at about 4:00 p.m. on January 3. According to the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), the total area of the reached 400 square meters.
In the evening of the same day, the Krasnodar Territorial Forest-Fire Centre stated that the fire was completely extinguishedat 8:36 p.m. Moscow time. However, local residents claim that the fire continues.
Sergey Shugaley, who lives in Djaparidze Street, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he was awakened by phone by his acquaintances living in Orekhov Waterfalls, who reported that the forest was on fire.
"When I went out into the street at about 11:00 p.m., I noticed that in the direction of Orekhov Waterfalls everything was in smoke; and flames were visible at a distance of two or three kilometres, moving towards my house. We anxiously wait with my family for what happens next."
A concern was also expressed by residents of Leselidze Street. Elena Nikolaeva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she could not get through to any of the services of the city by phone in order to get information about the fire seen from the window of her house.
