In Azerbaijan, Araz Guliev, editor-in-chief of religious website sentenced to 8 years in prison

The court has sentenced Araz Guliev, the editor-in-chief of the religious website xeber44.com, who was detained at a protest rally of believers, to 8 years in prison. Seven other defendants in this case received from 3 to 8 years, said the lawyer Fariz Namazly.

Guliev was detained on September 8, 2012, during the believers' action against the performance of topless female dancers at the international folklore festival in the city of Masally. Guliev's relatives associate his prosecution with his professional activities.

Today, the Lankaran Court of Grave Crimes has found Guliev guilty under five articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. When writing the verdict, the judge has partially summed up the terms and sentenced Guliev to 8 years in prison, the lawyer Fariz Namazly told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Namazly, his client Araz Guliev and other defendants did not admit their guilt, and intend to file appeals.
