Baku: participants of youth protest action detained

In Baku, the police prevented holding of the protest action of young activists, who demanded the dissolution of the Parliament. Organizers and participants of the protest action are being detained.

The protest action was announced through the "Facebook" by a special group "To Dissolve Parliament". The executive authorities of the Azerbaijani capital refused to sanction the rally at the specified place and offered to hold the protest action on the outskirts of the city. However, opposition activists still decided to hold the protest action in the centre of the city.

Yet an hour prior to the beginning of the protest action, reinforced police squads took Fountain Square under surveillance and began to detain some activists. Today, in the capital of Azerbaijan, about 50 participants of the meeting of the Supreme Majlis of the "Musavat" Party, who tried to take part in the protest action, were detained.

At about 03:00 p.m., several groups of activists with total number of 30 persons appeared in the square, chanting the slogan: "Resign, to Dissolve Parliament!", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from Baku.

Policemen began to detain the most active participants of the protest action and force them into police cars. In total, more than 20 persons were detained, including Natiq Adilov and Djamil Gadziev, the organizers of the protest action.

Different district courts of the capital sentenced 10 participants of the protest action to administrative arrests.
