In August, 182 persons fell victims to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In August 2012, at least 182 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 106 persons perished and 76 more were wounded. These are the results of calculations of the "Caucasian Knot" based on own materials of the edition and information from other open sources.

One should understand that the above statistics cannot reflect with absolute accuracy the number of victims in each of the identified categories of the survey. Not all the data get into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the reliability of statements made by law enforcement bodies.

So, in Dagestan, during the last month, about 103 persons suffered. Of these, 70 persons were killed and 33 wounded.

During the special operations against members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) and as a result of terror acts and attacks, at least 27 staff members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and other power agencies were killed. 23 power agents got injuries of varying severity. 21 persons, suspected of involvement in the armed underground, were killed, and three more were wounded. As a result of militant attacks, 22 civilians were killed, and 7 more were wounded.

In Ingushetia, 44 persons suffered. Of these, 19 persons were killed and 25 wounded. 9 law enforcement agents were killed, and 17 persons were wounded. 7 suspected IAF members were killed. 3 civilians were killed, and 8 more wounded.

In Chechnya, 30 persons suffered. Of these, 13 persons were killed and 17 wounded. 9 power agents were killed, and 16 persons were wounded. 4 suspected IAF members were killed. One civilian was wounded.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, 5 persons fell victim to the armed conflict: four persons were killed and one was wounded. 3 suspected IAF members were killed. One civilian perished, and another civilian was wounded.

Last month, in Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia and the Stavropol Territory, none fell victim to the armed conflict.

According to the "Caucasian Knot" calculations, for the second quarter of 2012, at least 355 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of these, 169 persons were killed and 186 wounded.

It should be noted that according to the results of the 2010 census, the population of Dagestan was 2,910,249 persons, of Chechnya 1,268,989 persons, of Ingushetia 412,529 persons, of Kabardino-Balkaria 859,939 persons, of Karachay-Cherkessia 477,859 persons, of North Ossetia 712,980 persons, and of the Stavropol Territory 2,786,281 persons.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report. Among the victims have been Abubakar Mestoev and Umar Chichaev, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Northern Caucasus, reports Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan.
