In Karachay-Cherkessia, policeman sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment for theft of weapon and extortion

The Cherkessk City Court sentenced Police Ensign Vitaly Vitkovsky to 5 years and 2 months of imprisonment in a penal colony of high security for theft of service weapon and extortion. This was reported by the press service of the Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia.

"The Court revealed that in October 2011, Police Ensign Vitaly Vitkovsky, the foreman of the independent police battalion of the Private Security Division of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in Cherkessk, committed theft of three Makarov pistols and 129 rounds for them from the weapons storage room of the City Private Security Division of the Russian MIA," stated Alibek Botashev, Press Secretary of the Supreme Court of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR).

With the stolen weapon, the policeman headed in a police car for Rostov-on-Don. Having realized that he would be prosecuted for the theft of weapons, he decided to pay off his loan to the bank in the amount of 200,000 roubles, the "Interfax-Yug" reports.

Being unable to do pay off the loan in the short term, Vitaly Vitkovsky requested Petrenko, Deputy Chief of the Private Security Department of the MIA of KChR to pay him the necessary amount for information about the whereabouts of the car and stolen weapons.

At trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt of the charges filed against him, the "Rosbalt" reports.
