Human rights activists demanded from the Ministry of Defense of Armenia to take measures for solving the problems of a wounded soldier
Vanadzor office of Helsinki Civil Assembly issued a statement in connection with the situation in which soldier of the Armenian Army Arman Manucharyn whose leg was amputated found himself. The reason for the human rights activists’ interference was a refusal to provide the soldier with a draft card and medical documents as well as procrastination of solving the question of providing the soldier with a prosthetic appliance.
Arman Manucharyn was called up for compulsory military service on November, 19, 2010. On February, 16, 2012, during service in one of the military units of Nagorno-Karabakh, as a result of a mine explosion he lost his leg above the knee. Vanadzor Military registration and enlistment office informed his parents about in on the phone.
Until April, 13, 2012, the soldier was undergoing treatment in Yerevan medical center ”Mutsaran”. On leaving the center Manucharyn received neither a draft card, nor his passport and necessary medical documents. For the purpose of getting all these the soldier’s mother repeatedly appealed to Vanadzor Military registration and enlistment office but failed to receive any information about the documents.
The question of Arman Manucharyn’s prosthetics has not been solved yet and it is unknown who is going to solve the problem, Epress.am reports.
“Taking into consideration extremely grave social position of Arman Manucharyn and his family we demand from the Ministry of Defense of Armenia to take immediate measures for providing the ex-serviceman with documents and fast and efficient steps to solve the problems with his health and social maintenance”, “Armenia today” quotes the human rights activists’ statement dated June, 4.
