Street vendors hold protest in Zugdidi

On June 1, in the Georgian city of Zugdidi, policemen demanded from street vendors to abandon the territory of the Central City Marketplace, after which local entrepreneurs held a spontaneous protest action.

After the vendors failed to obey, they were fined by 500 laris (about 300 US dollars) each.

The protest action took place near the building of the district administration; the vendors demanded to abolish the fines and allow trading, the "Georgia Online" reports.

As a result, the entrepreneurs managed to get a temporary permit to resume trading; however, the protesters said they would resume protests, if the authorities broke the promise and banned trading in the street, the portal "News.ge" reports.
