In Hamburg, journalists from Azerbaijan and Russia receive Bucerius Prize

Today, the City Hall of the German city of Hamburg hosted a ceremony of awarding journalists from CIS countries the annual Gerd Bucerius Prize "Free Media of Eastern Europe-2012", awarded by the German "ZEIT-Stiftung" Foundation and the Norwegian "Free Speech" Foundation.

Journalists from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia were among the award winners. The awards went to: the first Caucasian independent magazine "DOSH" (Grozny/Moscow, with Israpil Shovkhalov as the editor-in-chief), journalist Olga Romanova (Moscow), journalist Valery Karbalevich (Minsk), the magazine "Ukrainian Tyzhden" (Kiev, with Sergey Litvinenko as editor-in-chief), journalist Khadidja Ismailova from Azerbaijan (Baku).

"Khadidja Ismailova is one of the most serious journalistic researchers of Azerbaijan. In different media, she speaks of corruption, abuse of power, and violation of human rights in the country," the official statement of the "ZEIT-Stiftung" Foundation reports.

Olga Romanova, the journalist from Moscow, wrote a lot about situation in Russian prisons, and she participated in the "League of Voters" and the organizing committee "For Fair Elections".

The main topics of the magazine "DOSH" are respect for human rights, situation in the Caucasus, and instability in the region.

Valery Karbalevich is one of the leading independent commentators in the Belarusian media. His articles are devoted to the analysis of the domestic and foreign policy of Minsk.

Bilingual Ukrainian magazine "Ukrainian Tyzhden" publishes independent articles on the domestic and foreign policy of Ukraine.
