Investigators ask court to extend athlete Mirzaev's custody
The investigation asks to extend till July the custody of the athlete Rasul Mirzaev, who punched a Muscovite Ivan Agafonov, who later died. This was stated by Oksana Mikhalkina, who represents the victims; according to her story, on May 16, the Khamovniki Court of Moscow will consider this petition.
On February 15, 2012, the Zamoskvoretskiy Court of Moscow ruled to extend Rasul Mirzaev's custody until April 1; earlier, the athlete had been released on bail of 100,000 roubles and recognizance not to leave. The court also returned his criminal case to the prosecutor's office. On February 16, the court extended Rasul Mirzaev's custody until May 17.
On May 16, the court may receive the medical examination from the Burdenko Institute, on the basis of which a conclusion should be made on the reason of Agafonov's death; and therefore, on how to qualify Mirzaev's actions.
"So far, the examination is not ready; however, perhaps, on May 16 it may be completed; and the investigator will present it to the court," said Oksana Mikhalkina, as quoted by the RAPSI.
The fact that an additional examination was appointed on Rasul Mirzaev's case was reported on 10 by Alexei Gribenskoy, the athlete's advocate. He said that medical examiners intended to further explore the reason of the death of the 19-year-old Ivan Agafonov, the "Interfax" reports.
