Wall of apartment house collapses in Sochi
In Sochi, in the evening of May 11, a landslide smashed a wall of a residential house in Ternovaya Street in the village of Chereshnya. There is no information about the victims.
The house was inhabited by four families; they spent the night amidst ruins. The officials from the Adler District Administration have promised to bring a couple of trailers to the destroyed house, where the victims can live in the meantime, the ITAR-TASS reports.
Today, the villagers of Chereshnya have made an appointment to the Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov; they believe that a landslide was triggered by construction of a new power line in the landslide zone. After the start of construction, crack appeared on the ground and then – on the houses, the "Max-Portal" reports.
In March, Sochi residents addressed the Mayor demanding to stop issuing illegal permits for the construction of high-rise buildings on the slope of the landslide-prone hill. Locals argue that such construction endangers their houses.
