In April 2012, 97 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

At least 97 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus in April 2012. Of these, 69 persons were killed and 28 more wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

The death toll includes 13 law enforcers; 21 other power agents were wounded. The losses among civilians made 5 casualties and 7 wounded persons. At least 51 alleged members of the armed underground were liquidated.

One should understand that the above statistics cannot reflect with absolute accuracy the number of victims in each of the identified categories of the survey. Not all the data gets into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the reliability of statements made by law enforcement bodies.

In April 2012, in Dagestan, the count of victims was 52: 35 casualties and 17 wounded persons. Five law enforcers were killed, and 11 more were wounded. The losses among civilians were two casualties and six wounded persons. In total, 28 suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, at least 13 persons suffered, of them 11 persons were killed and two more were wounded. Two power agents were killed, and two more were wounded. Nine suspected militants were liquidated.

In Ingushetia, at least 12 persons suffered - seven of them were lost and five more were wounded. The death toll included three civilians and two suspected militants. Two law enforcers were killed, and five more wounded.

At least 10 persons suffered in the Stavropol Territory in April: nine suspected IAF members were liquidated; one civilian was occasionally wounded.

In Chechnya, at least six persons fell victim to the armed conflict in April: five persons were killed and one more wounded. Three power agents were killed, one more wounded. Two suspected IAF members were liquidated.

In Karachay-Cherkessia, at least four persons suffered in the armed conflict in April: an FSB officer was killed and two power agents were wounded. One supposed militant was liquidated.

Let us remind you that according to calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from open sources, within the period from January 1 to March 31, 2012, at least 258 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus; of them, 163 persons were killed and at least 95 more were wounded. The "hottest" area was Dagestan: at least 116 persons suffered in this republic in the first three months of this year, including 83 casualties and at least 33 wounded persons.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report.
