Kyamaleddin Geidarov: 1360 houses in Azerbaijan destroyed by earthquake
According to recent information, the earthquake in Azerbaijan destroyed about 1360 houses and damaged 20 social facilities. This was reported by Kyamaleddin Geidarov, Minister for Emergencies of the republic. According to the authorities of the Zagatala District, 36 persons sought medical treatment.
"As a result of the magnitude 5.7 earthquake, which occurred last evening, houses, affected earlier, were mostly destroyed and came into a fully unusable state," stated Colonel-General Kyamaleddin Geidarov, Minister for Emergencies of Azerbaijan.
"We try to provide tents for all families in need. We want people are not left on the streets till the new houses are constructed," the Minister emphasized, the "APA" reports.
"Starting from May 7, Zagatala hosts the control headquarters of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), residents of damaged houses are temporarily settled in tents," said Elman Ramazanov, First Deputy Executive Chief of the Zagatala District, and Chairman of the District Commission for Emergencies.
"36 persons contacted the Zagatala central district hospital with complaints about stress and light injuries. One man out of residents, who sought medical treatment, undergoes medical treatment in the hospital, and the other residents were sent home after providing them with first medical assistance," the IA "News-Azerbaijan" quotes Elman Ramazanov as saying.
According to the information released by the MfE, about 500 tents were pitched for the people in need, and they plan to pitch more 1000 tents.
