In Yerevan, Armenian environmental activists stand in defence of Tsagov Forest
On May 4, in Yerevan, the "Civil Movement of Tegut Defenders" organized a protest against felling the Tsagov Forest in the town of Zhukovsky, Moscow Region. Activists marched from the Mashtots Park to the Embassy of Russia in Armenia and expressed their support for Russian ecologists.
"We condemn the actions of the OMON (riot police) and Russia's police against environmental activists," said Arus Arutyunyan, a participant of the action.
She noted that the cutting down of the Tsagov Forest could be catastrophic for the densely populated town near Moscow, and Moscow itself. "The Tsagov Forest is a global wealth; and its defence is very important; therefore we appreciate and support the struggle of Russian environmentalists," added the activist.
According to activist Arthur Grigoryan, the appeals of the Tsagov Forest defenders shall be supported structures, organizations and citizens not only in Russia.
"A possible catastrophe should be prevented and the unlawful actions against forest defenders shall be publicly condemned," the protester believes.
