North Ossetia opens computer training centrefor pensioners
A training centre aimed to teach old people in the basics of computer and IT skills has been opened today in Vladikavkaz.
North Ossetiais now the fourteenth Russian region, which is realizing, with the initiative of the interregional public organization "Association of Veterans, Invalids and Senior People", the national social programme called "Grandma-Online– Grandpa-Online".
"The programme aims to overcome the old people's psychological barrier when it comes to computers and ITs," the initiators of the project explain.
Russian regions began implementing the social programme "Grandma-Online– Grandpa-Online" this February; and there were fears at the first stage, as reported by Sergey Vostretsov, the project manager and the chairman of the Association of Trade Unions of Russia "Sotsprof", that older people would not come to training courses.
"The main problem was not to find computers and attract teachers, but to break the psychological barrier," he explained. "Today, the inflow of those seeking to get training grows proportionally to the number of classes we open."
