In Volgograd, tenants of hostel in emergency condition hold picket demanding to provide them with housing
On April 27, residents of the hostel located at No. 9a Zholudev Street in the Traktorozavodsky District of Volgograd, held a picket trying to draw attention of the authorities to the disastrous state of their house. The action was about 10 persons strong.
The picketers held posters: "Shame on the Government of Volgograd!", "Give people decent housing!", "Let Russians to live in dignity!" and "Take care of building housing not swine farm!" The picket was supported by the regional office of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR).
"The 18 families of militaries who live in our hostel were visited by an official of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) – they will be evicted by an order. The official examined the housing and found it unsatisfactory; therefore, they don't go out to pickets," Ekaterina Gaplikova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"In 1993, my family was taken away from a 'hot spot'; and I'm considered a refugee. I'm a former military, but I lost contact with the MoD; and they refuse to take care about our housing. We ask the MoD to petition before the local authorities about giving some housing to us," said Lilia Solovyova.
"If in the near future this mess isn't solved, we'll go on hunger strike," Margarita Burlakova, Deputy Coordinator of the Volgograd Regional Branch of the LDPR, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
