"Dalga" activists protest in Baku against Iran's support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Today, about 20 members of the youth organization "Dalga" (Wave) have held a protest outside the Iranian Embassy in Baku demanding from Iranian authorities to stop supporting the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. The young people held posters reading "Freedom for Syrian people!" and "Iran, support demands of Syrian people!" and chanted slogans.

"We stand in solidarity with the people of Syria, who seek freedom from Bashar al-Assad's dictatorship. This anti-popular regime rests only with the support of some countries, Iran among them. We urge the Iranian authorities to support the efforts of the progressive world community to save the people of Syria from the repressive and punitive measures of al-Assad's regime," Parviz Azimov, a "Dalga" activist told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in his comment.

A few minutes after the start of the picket, policemen began ousting youth activists away from the Embassy. Nevertheless, the protesters managed to pass their petition to an Embassy employee.

"Our resolution calls on Iranian authorities to stop all their connections with the regime of Bashar al-Assad and to support the people's movement for freedom," said Azimov.

He reminded that earlier - on April 10 and 12 - the "Dalga" held protests in front of the Embassies of Russia and China in Baku.

The latter Embassies made no comments on the pickets of youth activists. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has also failed to get any comments from the Iranian Embassy.
