Leader of "Russians" rejects assumptions of involvement of his associates into murder of Metin Mekhtiev

Dmitry Demushkin, the leader of the nationalist movement "Russians", doubts that the murder of Metin Mekhtiev, the Muslim public figure, committed in Moscow, is backed by nationalistic motives.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Metin Mekhtiev, the citizen of Azerbaijan, the ex-head of the international department of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Russia, was murdered in Moscow at night on April 10.

According to investigators, the basic version of the murder is a robbery: criminals had stolen Mekhtiev's mobile phone Vertu, a purse with money in the amount of about 5000-6000 roubles, and the keys of the rented apartment. According to the leaders of the "Russian Congress of Peoples of Caucasus" (RCPC), the Muslim public organizations, and friends and colleagues of Metin Mekhtiev believe that the crime could have nationalistic motives.

However, according to Dmitry Demushkin, the head of the Supreme National Council of the movement "Russians", there is no information confirming nationalistic motive of the crime.

He has also added that his movement opposes attacks on visitors and that it suffers "image losses because of media allegations," the "Interfax" reports.
