CEC: Tibilov was elected President of South Ossetia by 56,12% votes

Ex-Head of KGB Leonid Tibilov was elected President of South Ossetia after polling 56,12% or 15 786 votes of the electorate, Chairperson of Central Election Committee (CEC) Bella Plieva reported. David Sanakoev polled 42,65% or 12 439 votes. Turnout of voters made 71,26%.

"Yesterday, April, 8, our electors voted in 84 polling stations, including one in Moscow, from 8:00 till 20:00 clock. Upon the results of voting at rerun the presidential election in South Ossetia the candidate who polls the majority of votes is considered elected", Plieva said announcing preliminary results of voting.

Plieva added that according to clause 49 of the law "On presidential election in South Ossetia", CEC by summing up the data of the protocols announces the final results no later than in five-days term.

Earlier, David Sanakoev recognized his defeat upon the results of voting. He declared that he was not going to appeal against the results of the election.

According to the observers, the presidential election in South Ossetia passed without obvious violations. Head of Leninogorsk district Nodar Goichiev also stated the absence of violations at the election.
