Court dealing with torture case in Ingush MIA sends witnesses' handwriting to re-examination in Moscow

The Karabulak Court of Ingushetia has satisfied the defence's petition to hold a re-examination of the handwriting of the witnesses Adam Nagadiev and Yakhya Kostoev, who figure of former employees of the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Nazir Guliev and Ilyas Nalgiev accused of torturing detainees.

Additional handwriting samples were taken from the witnesses for the prosecution Adam and Akhmed Nagadiev, who had abandoned their signatures, explaining that the investigator had pressed them mentally. Also, samples of handwriting of Yakhya Kostoev, who changed his evidences in the course of investigation, were sent to examination.

Today, the examination results were announced in relation to handwriting of Adam Nagadiev and Yakhya Kostoev. The examination has confirmed the identity of Yakhya Kostoev's handwriting; but as to Adam Nagadiev's one, the outcome was unambiguous.

However, the defence put forward a petition to hold a re-examination in Moscow. The court has satisfied it.

The next session is scheduled for April 9.

Nalgiev, the ex-head of the criminal police of Karabulak, is accused under the resonant case of torture along with Nazir Guliev, the former head of the Karabulak OVD (Interior Division). Initially, there were 13 victims in the case. The main episode of the case had to do with the torture applied directly by Nalgiev and his subordinates to the young Chechen Zelimkhan Chitigov. Because of threats from the defendants, Zelimkhan was forced to leave the territory of the Russian Federation.

During the court session on November 25, 2011, Ilyas Nalgiev said that he could not take part in Chitigov's detention and torture, because at that time he took his treatment in hospital. On March 1, at the trial, two witnesses confirmed Nalgiev's alibi.
