Oppositionists in Azerbaijan got a permission of holding a meeting on April, 8
The authorities of Baku suggested the civil movement for democracy “Public Chamber” (CMDPC) to hold their meeting on April, 8, in a parking lot of a driving school in the settlement of Baiilovo, South-Western suburb of Baku. During the action of protest its participants will demand to carry out democratic reforms in the country.
Coordination council of the movement agreed to hold the meeting in the area offered by the municipal Administration, Agil Samedbeili, member of Coordination council of CMDPC, told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
So, for the first time during the last five years the leading oppositional forces of Azerbaijan will hold an action authorized by the municipal authorities, the management of CMDPC pointed out.
Samedbeili called the decision of Coordination council a compromise of the opposition because the place offered by Mayor’s office was “unfit for holding mass actions”.
The action will go under the slogans: “New parliamentary election!”, “Freedom to Karabakh!”, “Freedom to political prisoners!”, “Give us back our investments one-to-one!” (meaning return of investment to the citizens in the former Sberbank of the USSR. – Note by the “Caucasian Knot”), “Keep away from our property!”. Participation of about 10 000 people is expected.
