Krasnodar airports to switch off illumination for "Earth Hour" action
The airports of the Krasnodar Territory will participate in the international "Earth Hour" initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and will today turn off the illumination for one hour.
According to the Limited Liability Company (LLC) "Bazel Aero", which manages the airports, exactly for one hour – from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Moscow time – the illumination will be switched off in the air terminals of Sochi, Krasnodar, Gelendzhik and Anapa; however, all the objects required to ensure the aviation safety, will operate in the normal mode.
"This year, same as last one, the main objective of the action is not to save energy, but to attract more people to the 'Earth Hour', to remind the passengers, aircraft crews and numerous staff of the airports about the need to respect and care about the nature and ecology of the planet," Sergey Likharev, Director General of the "Bazel Aero", said on the official website of the company.
This "Earth Hour" will take into account the last year's experience, when the airports switched off the main illumination, which was replaced by spotlights; for one hour they switched off the light board on roofs of buildings, at entrances to the terminals; the light ads were switched off completely.
As a result, the power saving during the hour at two airports made about 280 kilowatt/hours, which is equivalent to the monthly electricity consumption by an average two-room apartment, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
