Stavropol Territory: two patients' deaths after lidocaine injections under inquiry

In the cities of Pyatigorsk and Yessentuki, a pre-investigation into the fact of death of two patients of medical institutions after injections of lidocaine was started. This was reported by the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in the Stavropol Territory.

According to the ICRF, on March 16, in Pyatigorsk, at one of the private clinics a 52-year-old female patient developed convulsions after the injection of lidocaine, and then she died.

The woman passed examination by a gynaecologist, and after the ultrasound examination she was told that she needed a short procedure with local anaesthesia. The gynaecologist did not check the reaction of the patient in advance and used lidocaine for anaesthesia, the "News Life" reports.

The diagnosis made after the ultrasound examination is unknown, since the clinic refused to present the patient medical record book to the family members of the deceased patient. The relatives wait for the results of the forensic examination; the certificate issued by the morgue states that the death was caused by anaphylactic shock.

On March 19, in Yessentuki, at the city polyclinic, a 17-year-old girl died after injection of lidocaine, the "Interfax" reports. The fact is also under investigation.
