In Astrakhan Region, court session in case against woman-member of Jehovah's witnesses scheduled for March 27

In the city of Akhtubinsk of the Astrakhan Region, the court session in the case against Elena Grigorieva, the member of the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses, accused of inciting religious hatred and enmity, was scheduled for March 27.

Elena Grigorieva was one of five Jehovah's Witnesses, in whose houses on February 8, 2011, in Akhtubinsk, investigators conducted searches. On December 20, 2011, the renewed charge of "inciting hatred or enmity, and humiliation of human dignity" was filed against Elena Grigorieva. On February 7, the case was brought to the court.

According to investigators, "during the period from 2009 to February 2011, Grigorieva, being a representative of the religious organization" Jehovah's Witnesses ", disseminated among residents of the Akhtubinsk District of the Astrakhan Region "printed editions containing publications of extremist nature, included in the federal list of extremist materials," the website of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation reports.

In the course of the first court session held on February 17, Elena Grigorieva stated that she did not agree with the charges. The court sessions held on February 28 and 29 questioned prosecution witnesses the local residents, to whom Elena Grigorieva talked about faith in God. During cross-examination, it was revealed that none of the invited witnesses filed complaints or allegations to the police. None of them confirmed that Elena Grigorieva aroused in them hatred or hostility towards someone, the official website of the Administrative Centre of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia reports.

On March 16, the court decided to announce a 10-day break. The next court session was scheduled for this March 27.
