The victims of flood in Ishimli district of Azerbaijan held up their hunger strike
Nine residents of Ishimli district of Azerbaijan held up their hunger strike they started on March, 10, demanding fair compensation for the aftermath of the flood of 2010 in the Kura and Araz rivers.
The hunger strike was going in the houses of its participants in the town of Ishimli as well as the settlements of Murguzally, Chakharly, Gevkherli and Rasullu.
The participants demand repair of their houses destroyed or unfit for dwelling as a result of the flood and compensation for the loss of other property and damage to agricultural lands.
The action was held up after its participants visited representatives of regional executive authority who promised to solve the local residents’ problems, staff coordinator of “Kura” civil community Ogatai Gulalyev told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent. According to him, the participants of the action will recommence the hunger strike if their problems are not settled until May, 10.
During the action the state of three of its participants, Elman Shahbazov, Azhdar Gumbatov and Yadigyar Jafarov declined seriously. Shahbazov, the first category disabled person of Karabakh war, felt especially bad. Problems with his nervous system emerged and his speech slowed down. He is currently receiving medical aid.
The bodies of executive authority of Ishimli district declined comment confirming only that they would study the problems of the participants of the hunger strike after which the respective measures would be taken.
