Gudauri opens the longest Caucasian ropeway
The city of Gudauri has commissioned the longest and the fastest gondola-type ropeway in the Caucasus. Its first passengers were the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, the country's First Lady Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs and the Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava.
The length of the new ski lift is more than 2.4 kilometres; the gondola capacity is 10 people. "The total length of skiing routes in Gudauri was 18 km, and after completion of all the routes it will make 57 km," said Ugulava.
As stated by Mr Saakashvili, several hundred million US dollars will be invested in the coming years into the Georgia's ski infrastructure. According to his story, the regions of Georgia, where the projects on construction and development of ski resorts are implemented, will be able to overcome their economic difficulties thanks to tourism, the "News-Georgia" reports.
The President also got acquainted with the plan of further development of Gudauri and examined the Tourist Information Centre and the new routes, reports, the "Georgia Online" has added.
